Everyone has a phobia. It could be acrophobia (which is the fear of heights), or astraphobia which is the(fear of thunder and lightning). From the fear of very long words to the fear of dinner parties, here are 5 of the weirdest phobias.

 

  1. Dextrophobia: Dextrophobia is the phobia of having objects to your right. This phobia can be caused by things that have happened at an early age or genetics. People with Dextrophobia struggle with things like driving in certain conditions, like moving to the left lane.
  2. Geliophobia: Geliophobia is the fear of laughter. This phobia can be caused by a traumatic events, embarrassment, or genetics. People with Geliophobia get panic attacks and tremble in situations such as a public events.
  3. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia: Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of very long words. Many people have thought this phobia is a hoax, but it is a real. This fear could have happened as a child when trying to read or trying to pronounce a word. You cannot be born with Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia.
  4. Deipnophobia: Deipnophobia is the fear of dining and dinner conversations. Deipnophobia is usually caused by traumatic events. Most people will get a panic attacks and will shake uncontrollably.
  5. Arachibutyrophobia: This phobia is fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth. Arachibutyrophobia is caused by a series of external events. This phobia usually happens at a young age. People who have this phobia get extreme anxiety and excessive sweating
